Support for religious minorities' rights among (non)religious national majority group members: A motivational approach to worldviews

چکیده

Increasing religious diversity caused by immigration is often perceived as a threat to national majority members' (non)religious worldviews. However, defensive reactions are not inevitable. Building on the social identity approach and motivated construction theory, we argue that worldviews satisfy motivational needs may promote support for minorities' rights. We tested this hypothesis in sample of 1,499 group members four countries with Christian traditions (Australia, Finland, Germany, Norway). Participants reported their adherence worldview terms (dis)belief God, also extent which satisfied belonging, continuity, meaning life. The more was these motives, supported Worldview motive satisfaction associated rights among non-religious. In addition, weaker minority rights, but again, negative effect less evident participants whose meaning. conclude communities based shared (religious) should invest fulfilling members, foster interreligious solidarity.
